Foreign Minister Engages Arab Group at UN in Support of Bahrain’s Security Council Bid


New York: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a pivotal meeting organized by Bahrain’s Permanent Mission to the UN. The session included permanent representatives of Arab states aimed at supporting Bahrain’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, ahead of the election scheduled for June 3 during the UN General Assembly.



According to Bahrain News Agency, Taher Mohammed El Sonni, Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations and Chair of the Arab Group, stressed the collective support of Arab countries for Bahrain’s candidacy, wishing success in the Kingdom’s objectives for its upcoming Security Council term. Dr. Al Zayani expressed gratitude for the Arab delegates’ support, highlighting Bahrain’s dedication to multilateral diplomacy and global peace and security, which are crucial for collective advancement.



The Foreign Minister praised Algeria’s efforts in advocating for Arab causes within the Security Council and emphasized Bahrain’s intention to build on the foundations laid by other Arab nations during their previous council terms. Dr. Al Zayani expressed confidence that international collaboration can bolster global security and prosperity.



Under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain continues to advocate for a secure and interconnected Middle East, aligned with regional stability and prosperity. The Minister highlighted the importance of unified Arab efforts to advance effective solutions.



Dr. Al Zayani noted that the Bahrain Summit chaired by His Majesty the King in May reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to Arab cooperation. The summit highlighted a unified Arab stance supporting peace grounded in tolerance, coexistence, and dialogue, contributing to international stability.



Bahrain views its upcoming Security Council term as a platform to enhance international cooperation for peace and security, with a focus on advancing Arab priorities, particularly the Palestinian cause. Dr. Al Zayani emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to urging the Security Council to seek political solutions to regional conflicts, in line with the UN Charter and international law.



Addressing both traditional and emerging threats to global peace, Bahrain’s priorities include combating cybercrime, protecting infrastructure, promoting maritime security, and intensifying efforts against terrorism. The Kingdom remains ready to serve as a constructive Security Council member, committed to dialogue and cooperation.
