Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division Delegation Engages in OIC Economic and Environmental Committee Meeting

Baku: Bahrain's parliamentary division delegation, led by MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, participated in the 12th meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs, on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States in Azerbaijan. Al Salloom emphasized the importance of strengthening reciprocal visits and exchanging expertise among legislative councils to adopt the concept of the "green parliament" as a modern institutional approach combining economic efficiency with environmental responsibility.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting featured a presentation delivered by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Bahraini Parliamentary Division. This presentation, requested by the Association of Secretaries-General and the Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs within the Union, showcased the experience of the Bahraini Council of Representatives in transitioning towards a "green parliament". This transition followed its attainment of the ISO 14001:2015 certification, marking it as the first parliament in the Middle East and Asia to achieve this milestone.

Al Salloom noted that the "green parliament" initiative, launched by the Council of Representatives under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and followed up by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, represents a practical pathway through which legislative institutions can translate their commitments to sustainable development into practice.

He underlined the importance of continuing joint parliamentary work to advance practical initiatives that contribute to environmental protection, optimal use of resources, and strengthening parliamentary cooperation among OIC Member States in economic and environmental domains.
