Manama: The 170-kilometre Bahrain Swim Challenge, a relay event, has officially commenced, thanks to the support and initiation of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. As the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, his ongoing efforts are aimed at motivating athletes to embrace challenging endeavors and push their boundaries. According to Bahrain News Agency, four swimmers-Abdulla Atiya, Fatima Al Mahmeed, Mariam Bin Laden, and Andrew Donaldson-set off at dawn on April 23 from Sofitel Zallaq, which will also serve as the finish line for this remarkable journey. The route will take the swimmers through Bahrain Bay and other key locations, with meticulous safety measures implemented to ensure their well-being throughout this unprecedented challenge. This initiative is part of a broader series of motivational sports projects launched by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, designed to highli ght national talent, instill determination and resilience, and inspire Bahraini youth to engage in unique sporting experiences. The swimmers are conducting the challenge under stringent technical and physical supervision, receiving direct support from both medical and organizational teams to guarantee the highest levels of safety at all times.
