WHAT IS THIS ABOUT: On November 8, 2018, Cavco revealed in an SEC filing that it had “received a subpoena from the SEC’s Division of Enforcement requesting certain documents relating to, among other items, trading in the stock of another public company.” On this news, Cavco share price fell $49.48 per share, or over 23%, to close at $165.20 per share on November 9, 2018.

Industry Minister meets Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy

Manama, May 21 Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro met Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim, in the presence of a number of senior officials from both sides, to discuss a number of common economic issues.

Coast Guard rescues five individuals

Coast Guard patrols have rescued 5 individuals in two different cases after their boats were exposed to water leakage in the marine area near Al Dar Islands. The individuals are in good health condition.

The Coast Guard clarified that it had received a distress call from an individual, who was rescued at once. The Operation Room responded to the second call as maritime patrols headed to the location, rescued the individuals and towed the two boats to shore.

The Coast Guard calls on all seafarers to check the weather and follow the instructions and warnings issued by the concerned authorities in this regard, in addition to providing safety equipment on boats.

EWA, Alba sign agreement

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) signed a Technical Agreement for Operation and Maintenance of the EWA-Alba links

The agreement will give the opportunity to exchange energy yearly and seasonally to boost energy efficiency through scheduling the timing between exporting and importing between their electric systems.

Commenting, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA, said that energy programmes fall under initiatives of enhancing the quality of energy production in the Kingdom so that it can be invested in the proper method.

He affirmed that the implementation of energy exchange is conducted by following meticulous technical procedures that ensure the operating of the lines connected with Alba while following the proper operational standards to benefit from energy producing between the two parties to the fullest.

EWA and Alba both aim at archiving medium and long-term cooperation that will be in line with future needs.

Joint inspection campaign carried out in Capital Governorate

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) conducted a joint inspection campaign in the Capital Governorate, in coordination with the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) of the Ministry of Interior and the Capital Governorate Police Directorate.

The campaign resulted in reporting violations related to the Labour Market and Residency laws. The cases were referred for legal action. LMRA stressed its commitment to report any violation through a continuous and intensive inspection plan, in cooperation with the relevant government entities.

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority renewed its call on all members of the society to support the efforts of government agencies in addressing illegal labour practices by reporting violations via the electronic form on LMRA’s website www.lmra.gov.bh or by calling the Authority’s call centre on 17506055.

Bahrain participates in IPHRC meeting

The Bahraini delegation, led by Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al Sayed, the Head of the Human Rights Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC), participated in the 21st session of IPHRC, which convened in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Addressing the thematic discussion session on commercial activities and human rights, Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al Sayed highlighted Bahrain’s unique experience in economic empowerment of the youth and women and how it contributes to achieving the sustainable development goals, Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, and the government’s programmes.

She also underscored the kingdom’s strides in promoting human rights, especially with regard to labour laws. She pointed out Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce, guaranteeing fair treatment and providing a favourable work environment through comprehensive legislation.

Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al Sayed noted that Bahrain’s comprehensive efforts helped maintain its top tier ranking, for the fifth consecutive year, according to the US State Department report on Trafficking in Persons (TIP), to become the sole Arab country to achieve this rating.
