DUBAI ONCE AGAIN RANKS FIRST WORLDWIDE IN ATTRACTING FOREIGN INVESTMENT

Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, announced today that the Emirate leads the world rankings in terms of foreign direct investments in new companies, for the year 2022, according to “Russia Today” news agency. The Crown Prince of Dubai wrote on ‘Twitter’: ‘For the second year in a row, Dubai ranks first in the world in attracting foreign direct investment in new companies in the year 2022, with an annual growth of 89.5 percent, and an influx of foreign direct investment of 47 billion dirhams (about 12.8 billion dollars).”

Cabinet approves law regulating customs police work

The Cabinet Sunday approved a law regulating the work of the customs police and the ranks and insignia for police officers. The approved law would set conditions for those appointed in the customs department and to linking the salary of customs police officers to their rank and their duties, tasks and responsibilities. The law would regulate provisions related to customs control and binding and activate disciplinary procedures by creating a customs discipline unit. The Cabinet approved financial and economic regulations for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. The draft law aims to encourage investment and tackle obstacles facing enterprises registered in the Aqaba region. The draft law would add tourism activity to the economic activities covered by the provisions of the law and enable the authority to accept or reject the application for re-registration of a legally cancelled establishment after submitting a clearance from the relevant authorities. Also, the Cabinet approved the labour medical, preventive and curative care law for 2023. The law comes to develop legal provisions for occupational safety and health standards in line with international standards. It would provide preventive and curative medical care to workers during a work injury or disease caught at a workplace. The Cabinet meeting approved the Occupational Safety and Health Law and the Prevention of Occupational Hazards in Institutions for 2023. It approved the mandating reasons for the draft Social Development Law for 2023 ahead of sending it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau. The draft law is aimed at updating the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) law, which has been in effect for about 65 years. The Cabinet agreed to start purchasing wheat and barley crops from farmers for the 2022/2023 agricultural season. The Cabinet approved Jordan’s membership to the Islamic Organisation for Food Security and the promotion of Jordan as a “centre” for grain distribution in the region.

Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism praised by Speaker

Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, praised the Bahraini Press national achievements and efforts in highlighting Bahrain’s comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The speaker expressed the Council of Representative’s pride in the national endeavours of the Bahraini press and praised the continuous efforts of the Information Ministry, the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA), and all press associations in supporting the Bahraini journalist scene.

Speaker Al Musallam made the statements marking the seventh edition of the Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism, which was held today under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Al Musallam congratulated the winners and all the participants for their outstanding work.

He confirmed the keenness of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to support the efforts of Bahraini journalists and columnists to project a positive image of the Kingdom at the local and international levels.

First BBS art exhibition opened

Under the patronage of Chairman of the National Council for Arts, Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the council’s member Shaikha Dhowa bint Khalid Al Khalifa opened today the first art exhibition of Bahrain Businesswomen Society (BBS) which featured a distinguished collection of artworks carried out by 13 members of the society.

Sponsored by Naseej Company, the one-week exhibition is being held at Safeya Ali Kanoo Hub for Arts and Handicrafts. Marking the occasion, First Deputy Chairperson of Bahrain Businesswomen Society, Dr. Shaikha Eshaa bint Mohammed Al Khalifa stressed the society’s interest in the cultural and artistic activities aimed at highlighting the distinguished talents of its members and promoting the Kingdom of Bahrain as a cultural and artistic destination.

Bahrain Businesswomen Society board member and Head of the Cultural and Economic Committee, Manar Sariya, said that the exhibition, themed “Intilaq” (Start-off), was the first of the committee’s activities, as indicated by the name.

She added that the first edition of the exhibition comprises 13 artists, who are members of the society, displaying a collection of different artworks. She also noted that the exhibition will be open daily from 9 a.m to 9 p.m.

Korean Arts Brass Band receives enthusiastic feedback from Bahraini audience

The Korean embassy, in collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), has organised a concert by the Korean Arts Brass Ensemble at the Cultural Hall.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, BACA President was present at the musical event government, along with officials, diplomatic corps and culture loving audience in the kingdom.

The Korean Ambassador to Bahrain, Hye Kwan Chung said that the band is one of the leading Brass ensembles in Korea and individually won various awards in international competitions.

Ambassador Chung shared his strong belief in the performance of the band, lauding their ability to indulge the audience senses into the glorious harmony of a brass ensemble.

The performance took the audience on a journey through original soundtracks, jazz arrangements and some K-pop music pieces. The highlight of the band’s Bahrain performance was a rendition of the famous Gulf hit song “Ma Ma’akum Khabar Zain” in collaboration with Dana Al Abdulla, a pianist from the Bahrain Defense Force Band.

“Before the show, we were told that the Bahraini audience is relatively calm and reserved. However, at the show we were surprised to see their passionate and heartwarming reactions. The active interaction with the audience made us more invigorated while playing on the stage,” The band’s team leader, Bo-min Jeong said.

6th Bahrain Smart Cities Summit to begin Tuesday

Under the patronage of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister, Wael bin Nasser Al-Muabarak, Bahrain will host the sixth edition of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2023, which will kick off on Tuesday at the Gulf Hotel.

250 participants, including engineers, consultants, experts in the sectors of technology, sustainability, smart cities, academics and government agencies from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European Union countries, will take part in the two-day summit.

During the summit’s ten sessions, 20 work papers will be presented, and more than 40 keynote speakers will discuss a number of key themes, including mainly smart cities solutions and technology of the future, smart buildings and digital twinning, as well as techniques of smart and sustainable agriculture.

The initiatives of government agencies in the field of smart cities, in addition to the Artificial Intelligence apps in smart citizens will be showcased during the summit.

During the opening ceremony, the winners of smart cities’ awards 2023 will be announced.

An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2023, with the participation of 20 government and private sector entities.

The participants’ achievements in the field of smart city solutions, in addition to the latest systems and solutions concerned with sustainability and digital transformation in all sectors will be showcased during the exhibition.

SCYS Secretary General visits Oman’s Youth Centre

Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS), Ayman bin Tawfeeq Al Moayed praised the programmes and initiatives of Oman’s Youth Centre to hone the youth’s talents and develop their skills.

He was speaking during a visit to Oman’s Youth Centre. He was accompanied by Bahraini Ambassador to Oman, Dr. Juma’a bin Ahmed Al Ka’abi and Chairperson of SMEs Development Authority, Halima Al Zari.

The SCYS Secretary General toured the centre and got informed about its different facilities. He was also updated on the experiences of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the centre’s business incubator.
