UN Resolution Adopted for Korea and Chile to Co-Host 2028 UN Ocean Conference

Madrid: The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution officially designating South Korea and Chile as the co-hosts of the UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) slated to take place in Korea in June 2028, as it convened a plenary meeting in New York.

According to Bahrain News Agency, in a 169-2 vote with no abstentions, the Assembly passed the resolution, titled "2028 United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development." The United States and Argentina voted against it.

Under the resolution, the two countries will co-host the fourth UNOC, a triennial gathering hosted by a developed country and a developing country. The conference focuses on making progress in achieving SDG 14: "Life Below Water," part of the 17 SDGs aimed at addressing a range of global issues, including climate change and poverty.
