Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has announced an allocation of $8 million to assist Chad in dealing with the consequences of the El Ni±o climate phenomenon. This decision was made under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the funds will be dispersed through the UAE Aid Agency. The initiative aims to tackle the heightened food security challenges and mitigate the risks of hunger and malnutrition that have been exacerbated by the El Ni±o conditions.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, highlighted the UAE's dedication to continuing its international relief efforts, particularly in response to climate-related crises. He emphasized the importance of supporting the most vulnerable populations worldwide. Dr. Al Ameri pointed out that extreme climate fluctuations, such as drought, rising temperatures, and inconsistent rainfall, have a direct impact on agricultural productivity and livelihoods. This situation necessitates a comprehensive response that includes both immediate aid and the strengthening of long-term resilience.
Dr. Al Ameri further explained that the UAE's support plan for Chad is centered around fulfilling basic food requirements and assisting the most severely affected communities to alleviate malnutrition. This effort is part of the agency's broader strategy to develop sustainable humanitarian and development solutions aimed at improving living conditions for communities affected by natural disasters globally.
