Manama: Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health (SCH), visited the Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Training and Education Centre at Salmaniya Medical Complex, where he reviewed key medical training, education, and scholarship programmes implemented by government hospitals, as well as developments achieved in the medical training system and programmes for preparing and qualifying health cadres.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Maryam Athbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals administration, was present during the visit. Lt. Gen. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah was briefed on training and scholarship programmes at government hospitals, as well as efforts to develop training programmes and build national capabilities. These initiatives aim to provide the health sector with qualified professionals to the highest professional and scientific standards.
Lt. Gen. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah also reviewed the internship year programme, which includes its training and assessment mechanisms, and its role in preparing newly graduated doctors and developing their clinical and professional skills. He was also briefed on the key achievements and developments in residency programmes, including efforts to improve training content and strengthen academic and clinical supervision.
The visit included a briefing on the new electronic training platform for doctors enrolled in residency programmes. The platform provides organised online training content and helps doctors follow training requirements, educational programmes, and assessments, thus improving the efficiency of training and their overall experience.
Lt. Gen. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah stressed the importance of continuing investment in medical education and training as a key part of developing the healthcare system and maintaining specialised national expertise. He commended efforts to develop medical training and residency programmes and the use of modern digital solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of education and training.
Dr. Al Jalahma affirmed that government hospitals continue to prioritise the development of medical and health cadres by strengthening training and scholarship programmes, developing residency programmes, and adopting modern digital education tools. These efforts help improve professional competence and the quality of healthcare services provided to patients.
