Lebanese Minister of Interior Visits Bahrain’s Open Prisons Complex and Royal Academy of Police

Manama: As part of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ahmad Al Hajjar, Minister of Interior and Municipalities of the Lebanese Republic, visited the Open Prisons Complex, accompanied by Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, Chief of Police.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, briefed the Lebanese Minister on the executive mechanisms used to implement the provisions of the Penalties and Alternative Measures Law. Efforts to expand its application and launch additional rehabilitation and training programmes for beneficiaries were also discussed.

The briefing covered the operational mechanisms of the facilities and services provided at the Open Prisons Complex. The programme has been described as a significant achievement in Bahrain's human rights process, under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the Government's commitment, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The focus is on advancing its implementation and adopting international standards.

The objectives of the Alternative Sentencing Project and its achievements through educational and training programmes were outlined, highlighting the reform plans aimed at rehabilitating inmates, correcting their behaviour, and supporting their reintegration into society.

Minister Al Hajjar and his delegation toured the Open Prisons Complex, reviewing its educational facilities, residential units, and sports club, all contributing to comprehensive rehabilitation and training.

The Lebanese Minister also visited the Royal Academy of Police, where Major-General Dr. Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and other officials briefed him on the academy's history and its role in preparing security personnel to maintain security and protect public safety.

During the visit, Minister Al Hajjar viewed the Security Book Exhibition and other academy facilities, commending the Ministry of Interior for its role in maintaining security and public safety.
