Interior Minister Emphasizes Mukhtars’ Role in Enhancing Community Communication

Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Interior Minister, held a meeting this morning with the governors, in the presence of the Deputy Interior Minister, the Chief of Public Security and the General Coordinator of the Governorates.

According to Bahrain News Agency, at the outset of the meeting, the minister commended His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's issuance of Decree-Law 38 of 2026 concerning the Governorates System, which reintroduces the mukhtar system in its updated form as part of the community communication framework. He noted that the system contributes to efforts to identify citizens' needs and work to address them through cooperation and coordination between the governorates and relevant authorities.

The minister reviewed the duties and responsibilities of mukhtars in the governorates, including strengthening social cohesion, contributing to the identification of social needs and problems, supporting crime prevention efforts, and enhancing community communication with different segments and institutions of society. Mukhtars perform their duties under the supervision of the governors and in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The minister emphasised the role of the governorates in building a safe society based on national awareness and informed security culture. He noted that positive communication with residents and community councils represents a national and cultural legacy that must be preserved and strengthened. He also commended the governorates' efforts to consolidate integrated relations with various authorities, activate community partnerships and provide services efficiently.

The meeting also discussed issues and projects related to governorate affairs that are being implemented on the ground.
