Manama: The Education and Training Quality Authority issued its report, "Performance of the Education and Training Sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain for the Academic Year 2025-2026", which reviews the key findings from reviews of education and training institutions, National Qualifications Framework processes, national examinations, and the Learning Continuity Follow-up Programme. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the performance of the education and training system in Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the report noted that during the 2025-2026 academic year, the authority reviewed 172 out of 547 institutions within its scope of work, covering 31% of institutions. These included 50 government schools, 22 private schools, 51 kindergartens, 24 special education institutions, 22 vocational education and training institutions, and 3 higher education institutions, in addition to implementing National Qualifications Framework processes and national examinations.
The report showed that school review results reflected continued improvement in the quality of school performance, indicating positive stability in performance quality across both the public and private sectors.
Regarding kindergartens, the report explained that the authority continued the first cycle of independent kindergarten reviews. The results showed that kindergartens provide safe and supportive learning environments, along with effective partnerships with parents and the local community. The report recommended continuing to strengthen play-based learning, develop communication skills, and increase opportunities for child-led learning.
The report also reviewed the results of the first cycle of special education institution reviews, which highlighted positive practices in learner assessment, the development of individual education plans, and the provision of safe and supportive learning environments. It also emphasised the need to improve the quality of educational experiences, strengthen planning for learning activities, and increase the effectiveness of professional development programmes for staff in the sector.
In the vocational education and training sector, the report showed stable performance among the institutions reviewed, with continued efforts to promote innovation in training programme design, develop training and assessment practices, and further align outcomes with the needs of the labour market and national economy.
Reviews of higher education institutions showed advanced levels of institutional maturity and academic stability, while emphasising the importance of strengthening scientific research, innovation and sustainable quality systems.
Regarding the National Qualifications Framework, the report noted the inclusion of 23 institutions, the placement of 120 national qualifications, and the recognition of 74 foreign qualifications. This contributes to improving the quality of qualifications, standardising their criteria, increasing their reliability, and supporting their alignment with labour market needs and lifelong learning pathways.
The report also covered the results of the Learning Continuity Follow-up Programme, which was implemented by the authority during the transition to remote learning. The results showed a high level of readiness among education and training institutions and their ability to maintain continuity of learning, while focusing in the next phase on improving learning quality and the effectiveness of remote learning and assessment models.
The report forms part of the role carried out by the Education and Training Quality Authority in reviewing the performance of education and training institutions, managing National Qualifications Framework processes, and implementing national examinations. These efforts contribute to enhancing the quality of Bahrain's education and training system and supporting its continuous development.
