Manama: The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has successfully conducted a comprehensive field assessment of the core capacities for implementing the International Health Regulations (IHR) at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the assessment was carried out with the cooperation of Bahrain Airport Company and relevant port authorities. Representatives from the GCC Committee for IHR Implementation and Bahrain's IHR team participated in this initiative to enhance the airport's readiness to respond to health risks at border points.
Bahrain International Airport passed the core capacity risk assessment for border entry points, achieving a high rating that signifies the quality and efficiency of its services. This accomplishment underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen national health security and ensure compliance with World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements.
The evaluation team utilized WHO standard tools for data collection and analysis, complemented by field visits, group discussions, and interviews with relevant teams. These methods were employed to assess coordination under various conditions and the readiness to respond to public health emergencies.
This achievement underscores Bahrain's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of public health and safety at border points. It also reinforces regional cooperation within the GCC to protect public health and enhance health security.
