Paris: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) announced the opening of applications for the UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education for 2026.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, highlighted the importance of the international award, launched under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He noted its global role in supporting innovative projects that use technology to enhance education and learning opportunities, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak explained that the 2026 edition carries the theme 'Reimagining creativity and critical thinking using artificial intelligence.' It aims to recognize outstanding projects submitted by individuals, institutions, and non-governmental organisations worldwide that have been implemented for at least one year and use modern technologies to develop and deliver educational services efficiently.
He added that UNESCO has set May 8, 2026, as the deadline for nominations. These must be submitted through national commissions of UNESCO member states or non-governmental organisations in official partnership with UNESCO. Two winners will be selected based on the recommendations of an independent international jury.
