Qatar Sends Ninth Letter to UN and UNSC Addressing Iranian Aggression

Doha: The State of Qatar has dispatched its ninth identical letter to Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, and Michael Waltz, the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of March. This correspondence addresses the continued Iranian aggression on Qatari territory, which Qatar asserts is a blatant violation of its national sovereignty and poses a direct threat to its security and territorial integrity. The letter highlights the escalation as a severe threat to regional security and stability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the letter, authored by Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, details the hostile activities since the onset of the attack on February 28. It reports that Qatar's air defense systems have intercepted several aerial threats, resulting in civilian injuries from these attacks.

The communication underscores that the attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran have persisted despite the Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2817 (2026). This resolution, co-sponsored by 136 countries, strongly condemned Iran's actions against Qatar and its neighboring nations and demanded an immediate cessation of these hostilities.

The letter also reaffirms Qatar's strong condemnation of the attacks and asserts its full right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which pertains to the right of self-defense.
