Manama: The State of Qatar has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack by the Houthi group on a Saudi vessel navigating the Red Sea. The attack has been described by Qatar as a severe breach of international maritime safety, posing a direct threat to global energy supply lines and violating international law.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar released a statement emphasizing that such attacks represent a dangerous escalation, threatening regional security and stability. The Ministry highlighted that these actions undermine efforts to bolster regional security.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry urged the international community to uphold its duties by enforcing relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, specifically Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722 addressing the rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. The Ministry stressed that freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, as outlined in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Qatar reaffirmed its complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia, supporting all necessary measures to safeguard the kingdom's security, sovereignty, and interests. The statement underscored that Saudi Arabia's security is inherently linked to the security of Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
