Parliamentary Division Engages in IPU Seminar on Digital Accessibility in European Parliament

Brussels: A delegation from the Parliamentary Division participated in a virtual seminar organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) focused on digital accessibility within the European Parliament. The seminar aimed to explore the European Parliament's approach and accomplishments concerning digital accessibility across its mobile applications, internal networks, website, and electronic documents.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation from the Parliamentary Division included MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan and several staff members from the General Secretariats of the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives. The seminar covered a range of specialised topics, emphasising digital accessibility as a fundamental right that should be prioritised within parliamentary institutions. It examined the European Parliament's methods for delivering inclusive digital services through various digital platforms.

The seminar highlighted key principles of digital accessibility and the legislative framework that supports it, such as the Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act. Participants received insights into the European Parliament's strategy for enhancing digital accessibility and learned about the initiatives of the Digital Accessibility Competence Centre. This centre collaborates with users with disabilities to ensure that accessibility requirements are integrated into digital systems and services. The seminar also reviewed mechanisms for quality assurance, compliance reporting, and best practices in creating inclusive digital services.
