Oil Minister Participates in Leaders’ Conference Within COP30 Events in Brazil

Belem: Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, participated in the Leaders' Conference held as part of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belem, the capital of Brazil's Par¡ State in the Amazon region. The minister underlined the importance of discussing priority actions to address climate change.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the conference focused on key themes related to climate and nature, including forests and oceans, highlighting the role of tropical forests and marine ecosystems in maintaining global environmental balance. Discussions also addressed the transition to clean energy, with emphasis on expanding renewable energy use, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and reviewing nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and climate finance to assess progress on financial commitments and international support for climate action.

Dr. Bin Daina commended Brazil's leadership in chairing COP30, emphasising the need for enhanced international cooperation to address climate change and protect vital ecosystems, including the Amazon forests and the oceans. During the leaders' main sessions, he presented interventions on the conference's key themes, underscoring the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to supporting global efforts to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and ensure a sustainable environment for future generations.

The Leaders' Conference serves as an early high-level meeting in the Amazon region ahead of the formal COP30 summit, bringing together heads of state and international leaders to highlight the central role of forest and biodiversity protection in the global climate agenda. The gathering focused on three main priorities: strengthening climate ambition by encouraging countries to submit stronger national contributions consistent with the 1.5°C target; mobilising funding to bridge the finance gap for adaptation and just energy transition projects in developing countries; and promoting multi-level governance to ensure effective implementation of agreed climate actions at both national and local levels.
