London: Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), and Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the President of Customs, along with their delegation, visited the United Kingdom to explore advanced practices in border management and the regulation of passenger traffic at official ports of entry.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation’s visit included an assessment of the UK Border Force, where they met with Phil Douglas, Director General of the UK Border Force. During their visit to Manchester Airport, the delegation closely examined the operational mechanisms, focusing on procedures in passenger areas and the implementation of digital systems and modern technologies, such as electronic gates, to streamline entry and exit processes and improve service efficiency for travelers.
The delegation also engaged in discussions with officials from the National Border Targeting Centre (NBTC). These meetings focused on the utilization of travel data, risk analysis, and the role of passenger profiling systems in supporting decision-making and bolstering security readiness at ports.
The purpose of the visit aligns with the Ministry of Interior’s objective to exchange expertise with international entities and review global best practices in border management. This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, modernize procedures, and expand the use of electronic gates, adhering to the highest approved standards.
