Manama: Nibras Mohamed Talib, Chief Executive of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to implement its integrated national approach to combating trafficking in persons.
According to Bahrain News Agency, this is achieved through developing the legislative and regulatory framework, strengthening institutional work, and expanding cooperation and coordination with partners at the regional and international levels, contributing to the protection of the rights of all parties in the labour market and the promotion of a safe and sustainable working environment.
Marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30, Talib underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen international cooperation and exchange expertise and best practices to support efforts to combat this crime and address its evolving forms amid rapid global changes.
He noted that this year's United Nations campaign highlights the challenges associated with the exploitation of modern technologies in trafficking crimes. Talib emphasized the importance of continuing to develop counter-trafficking tools, strengthening international coordination, and raising public awareness to support prevention efforts and protect individuals.
As part of its commitment to international cooperation, the Kingdom continues to implement initiatives and programmes aimed at enhancing public awareness and promoting the use of official reporting channels for any suspected practices, thereby strengthening prevention and protection efforts.
Bahrain's national approach to combating trafficking in persons is based on five main pillars: prevention, victim protection, law enforcement, strengthening local and international partnerships, and institutionalising efforts. These pillars ensure their implementation through integrated national policies and plans that enhance performance efficiency and coordination among the relevant authorities.
Talib stated that the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons provides an opportunity to renew the Kingdom's commitment to continuing support for international efforts, strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building on the national achievements made in this domain.
He commended the efforts of all government entities in implementing initiatives and programmes aimed at combating trafficking in persons, which strengthen the framework for protecting rights and reinforcing the Kingdom's position as an active partner in relevant international efforts.
