Legislative Authority and Foreign Minister Discuss Bahrain’s Role in Promoting Peace

Manama: A joint meeting of the Legislative Authority and Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was convened to assess Bahrain's efforts in fostering sustainable peace in the Middle East, showcasing a shared vision and coordinated approach within Bahraini diplomacy. The meeting was chaired by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, with Dr. Al Zayani representing the government.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by Ghanim bin Fadhel Al Buainain, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of the councils, chairpersons and members of the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security committees, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, and the secretariats of both councils.

Speaker Al Musallam and Shura Chairman Al Saleh emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral meetings as part of the constructive cooperation between the Legislative and Executive Authorities, in alignment with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. They highlighted the United Nations' adoption of the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence on January 28 as a recognition of Bahrain's leadership in promoting peace and coexistence.

Dr. Al Zayani stated that His Majesty the King's vision underlines the necessity of sustainable peace both regionally and globally, advocating for dialogue, diplomacy, and international cooperation. He noted Bahrain's commitment to international peace initiatives, reflecting the directives of His Majesty and the government to advance peace and stability in the region.

The Foreign Minister addressed the complexities the Middle East faces, including political, security, and humanitarian crises, such as the conflict in Gaza. He stressed the need for international frameworks to transition from crisis management to conflict resolution and developmental solutions.

Bahrain's decision to join the Board of Peace followed an invitation from former US President Donald Trump, aligning with a peace plan for Gaza aimed at protecting Palestinian rights. This move underscores US confidence in Bahrain's diplomatic approach based on dialogue and mutual respect.

The Foreign Minister also mentioned that His Majesty the King participated in the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace, adopting the US peace plan and leading to UN Security Council Resolution 2803 of 2025. This resolution established the Board of Peace, aligning with Bahrain's initiatives during its Arab League presidency in 2024, including advocating for a two-state solution and supporting Palestinian state recognition.

Dr. Al Zayani attributed Bahrain's strong international standing to His Majesty the King's vision, highlighting the nation's moderate and cooperative diplomatic approach. He noted Bahrain's current international responsibilities, including its presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council session, non-permanent UN Security Council membership, upcoming Arab League chairmanship, and other international roles.

He stressed the significance of cooperation between Bahrain's Executive and Legislative Authorities and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in enhancing Bahrain's international presence.
