Manama: Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), confirmed that the eKey 2.0 project has been honored with the Digital Identity Innovation Award at the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2026. This accolade underscores the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to enhancing user experience and elevating the quality of digital services by offering integrated government services that align with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Qaed expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the award signifies the technological advancements made by the eKey 2.0. The system enhances secure digital access to services across both government and private sectors, offering advanced features for secure and privacy-focused digital transactions. The development of eKey 2.0, backed by HE General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, follows international best practices and serves the needs of individuals, government entities, and businesses in the Kingdom.
Al Qaed congratulated the team behind the eKey 2.0 project, reaffirming iGA's commitment to continually upgrading the system and integrating cutting-edge technologies to advance Bahrain's digital transformation. The iGA is also actively participating in an exhibition accompanying the summit, highlighting its digital initiatives and projects. Key among these is the MyGov App, offering 111 government services from 15 entities, alongside the enhanced eKey 2.0 app for secure access through the National Portal.
Additionally, the iGA is showcasing its "Water Heritage Mapping Environmental Sustainability" project, developed in partnership with relevant entities, which supports tourism and the national economy. The Bahrain Smart Cities Summit is a prominent annual event in the Kingdom, drawing significant participation and recognizing innovative solutions that advance smart city development, enhance urban living, and support sustainability.
