Manama: The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution announced that the High Criminal Court today reviewed the case involving multiple defendants accused of affiliating with a terrorist group. This group is alleged to have been formed with the objective of suspending the Constitution and laws, obstructing state institutions and authorities, threatening national unity, and attempting to alter the constitutional framework of the Kingdom.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the defendants are charged with advocating the ideology of the Guardianship of the Jurist, which demands complete loyalty to Iran's Supreme Leader and submission to Iran's political power. This was allegedly pursued by gaining control over places of worship, Maatams, and Hussainiyas, which were then used to propagate this ideology. The charges also include incitement against the constitutional system, promoting terrorist acts, encouraging riots and sabotage, supporting activities to destabilize the Kingdom, and raising funds for the terrorist group's activities.
The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution has charged a total of 17 defendants, with 15 currently in custody and two at large. In today's hearing, attended by the defendants' legal representatives, the court postponed further proceedings until July 22 to enable the defense team to examine the case files thoroughly. Additionally, the court has granted permission for defense lawyers to meet with their clients.
