Riyadh: Members of the Executive Board of the Gulf Health Council, including prominent figures such as Dr. Lulwa Rashid Showaiter and Dr. Samya Ali Bahram, gathered in Riyadh at the Gulf Health Council headquarters for the 103rd meeting of the Executive Board. This significant assembly focused on initiatives to advance health services and bolster pharmaceutical security across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Showaiter, serving as a member of the Executive Board and chairing the current session, reiterated Bahrain's commitment to fostering joint Gulf efforts. The aim is to enhance the health sector and promote integration among GCC nations to tackle health challenges, thereby improving the efficiency of health systems and the quality of services. Dr. Showaiter highlighted the significance of the Gulf Unified Procurement Programme in enhancing spending efficiency and ensuring a sustainable supply of medicines and medical supplies.
The meeting agenda included discussions on the council's performance report for the first half of 2026 and the budgets for 2027 concerning the council and the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention. Key projects deliberated upon included the formation of a strategic stockpile committee, approval of unified procurement tenders, strengthening centralized pharmaceutical registration cooperation, and adoption of the Gulf guide for standardizing export prices of pharmaceutical products, alongside updates to the council's internal regulations.
Additionally, the meeting marked the launch of several initiatives, such as the "Taawun 2.0" system, the Knowledge Platform, and specialized studies by the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, underscoring the council's commitment to collaborative progress in public health.
