Manama: All member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have expressed a unified stance, condemning the aggression launched by Iran and its proxies on their territories. This condemnation is grounded in positions adopted by the GCC Ministerial Council, the Council of Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States, international law, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the seven states emphasize that Iran's attacks have continued uninterrupted since 28 February 2026, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States of America and Iran on 17 June 2026. The attacks have escalated against the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, targeting energy facilities, water desalination plants, ports, airports, and other civilian infrastructure.
The states stress that these ongoing attacks are explicit acts of aggression, violating the UN Charter, international law, international humanitarian law, UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), and commitments made by Iran under the MoU. These actions pose a threat to international peace and security.
In response, the seven states affirm their right to self-defense, as outlined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, and commit to taking necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territories, citizens, commercial vessels, and vital infrastructure. They welcome the decision by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq to restrict weapons exclusively to the state by 30 September 2026 and support Iraq's measures to prevent pro-Iranian factions from continuing hostile operations in the region.
The states call on the UN Security Council to issue an urgent resolution demanding the cessation of Iranian attacks, recognizing the affected states' right to self-defense, and considering additional measures if the attacks persist.
They also praise the professionalism and readiness of their armed forces in defending their sovereignty and appreciate the resilience of their citizens, reflecting the unity between their leaderships and peoples. The states reaffirm their commitment to the freedom and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab and express readiness to work with regional countries and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to ensure regional security.
Finally, the states express solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support its measures to preserve its sovereignty and stability. They appreciate the diplomatic efforts by Saudi Arabia and Oman to achieve a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and recognize the developmental and humanitarian support provided to Yemen.
