Manama:The meeting between Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, and a European Parliament delegation took place at the Open Prisons Complex. The delegation was led by Reinhold Lopatka MEP, Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the focus of the meeting was on exchanging expertise and learning about Bahrain's programmes and initiatives in alternative sentencing and open prisons. The review included the country's alternative sentencing system and Open Prisons Programme, highlighting recent developments in services provided to beneficiaries.
The delegation was briefed on the Directorate's initiatives in education, training, employment, and social support, which aim to develop beneficiaries' skills and prepare them for reintegration into society. A tour of the Open Prisons Complex allowed the delegation to view the facilities and learn about the implementation approach of the services and programmes available to beneficiaries.
The delegation expressed commendation for the progress made in the alternative sentencing system and Open Prisons Programme, particularly in supporting the reintegration of beneficiaries into society, appreciating the efforts undertaken in this area.
