Manama: Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), chaired the Gulf Parliamentary Coordination Committee meeting, conducted via video conference. This meeting took place alongside the Kingdom of Bahrain's parliamentary division delegation's participation in the 39th Conference of the AIPU, scheduled from June 9 to 11.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Qarata emphasized the importance of continued cohesion and integration of joint Gulf action, reflecting the vision and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. This initiative aims to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among Gulf Cooperation Council member states, consolidating consultation and coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Qarata also praised the involvement of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in reinforcing Bahrain's leading role within joint Gulf and Arab actions. His efforts enhance Bahrain's active presence in parliamentary, regional, and international forums.
He conveyed greetings from Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, who is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division and head of the participating delegation. Al Musallam extended his wishes for the success of the AIPU meetings and conference.
Qarata highlighted the need for greater Gulf parliamentary coordination in light of the challenges and rapid developments facing the region. Unified visions and positions on Arab, regional, and international issues are essential to strengthen Gulf parliamentary diplomacy, safeguard shared interests, and support security, stability, and sustainable development. He stressed the importance of reinforcing a unified Gulf voice in decision-making forums.
Further, Qarata commended the Kingdom's diplomatic efforts, in collaboration with GCC states and other Arab countries, in addressing Iranian attacks. These efforts include issuing condemnation statements, active diplomatic engagement at the United Nations Security Council, and the adoption of Resolution 2817 supported by 136 countries. Resolution (38) of the Human Rights Council, adopted by consensus, also supports regional security and stability, upholding principles of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
Participants at the meeting discussed several agenda items, including the review of the 42nd session agenda of the AIPU Executive Committee, addressing Iranian attacks, supporting the Palestinian cause, and coordinating positions and exchanging views on upcoming meeting topics to strengthen Gulf consensus on common concerns.
