New york: Lieutenant-General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, Chief of Police and Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management, participated in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), held at the United Nations Headquarters on July 7-8.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the summit discussed the future of policing, the role of innovation and emerging technologies in advancing policing systems, and means to enhance international cooperation in addressing evolving global security challenges.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the UN Police and member states, advancing professional policing, and exchanging expertise and international best practices to support security and stability and strengthen the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to address emerging challenges.
The summit explored the future role of the UN Police in evolving peace and security environments and highlighted the importance of the responsible use of modern and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence applications, digital policing tools, and intelligence-led policing, to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness while upholding accountability, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
Participants also discussed means to enhance international cooperation and coordination in addressing cross-border challenges, including organised crime, illicit trafficking, illicit arms flows, and other emerging security threats. They underscored the importance of partnerships among national law enforcement agencies, the UN, and international organisations to build capacity, enhance interoperability, and coordinate joint efforts to address global security priorities.
The summit reaffirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen international cooperation mechanisms, exchange expertise, knowledge and best practices, and promote innovation to enhance police preparedness and response capabilities, contributing to regional and international security and stability.
