Manama: Foulath Holding, a company specializing in steel and iron, has announced a groundbreaking agreement with Yellow Door Energy to develop a significant 123-megawatt solar power project in Bahrain. Under a power purchase agreement, the initiative includes constructing the largest single-site rooftop solar power plant globally, with a capacity of 50 megawatts and 77,000 solar panels spread across 262,000 square meters.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the announcement was made at the Gateway Gulf 2025 Forum, an investment event organized by the Bahrain Economic Development Board. The forum brought together representatives from various sectors to explore investment opportunities and engage with Gulf development initiatives.
Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, emphasized the importance of this project in promoting sustainability and enhancing Bahrain's role in renewable energy. She highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Kingdom's national vision for a sustainable future.
Meshary Al-Judaimi, Chairman of Foulath Holding, noted that the company has invested around USD 250 million in sustainable development projects, reflecting its commitment to aligning industrial growth with environmental care. This solar power project is a continuation of these efforts.
Sherif ElKholy, Chairman of Yellow Door Energy, expressed confidence that the project will set a new global standard in carbon-free steel production and emphasized the role of clean energy in advancing industrial operations.
The 123-megawatt site will include rooftop solar photovoltaic plants and ground-mounted installations, significantly reducing carbon emissions in Bahrain's steel sector. It aims to generate 200 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy in its first year, using over 189,900 high-efficiency solar panels and cutting carbon emissions by 90,000 metric tonnes.
Dilip George, Group CEO of Foulath Holding, expressed pride in hosting the world's largest rooftop solar project and reiterated the company's dedication to decarbonizing operations and contributing to a greener future for Bahrain and the region.
Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, stated that the company is honored to be selected for the project and committed to helping industrial companies decarbonize their operations. He noted the project's significance as part of the company's ten-year anniversary and its role in advancing clean energy in heavy industries.
Yellow Door Energy will manage the project's financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance, allowing companies to benefit from clean energy solutions without upfront investment or operational risk.
To date, Yellow Door Energy's projects have produced over one billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy, reducing carbon emissions by 400,000 metric tonnes. The company continues to lead the region in renewable energy solutions, aligning its efforts with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
