Bahrain Reaffirms Support for Kuwait at UN Security Council Meeting

New York:The Kingdom of Bahrain has reiterated its unwavering support for Kuwait concerning the issues of Kuwaiti prisoners, missing persons, third-country nationals, and Kuwaiti property, including the National Archives. This stance aligns with the unified position of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as outlined in the final communiqué of the 46th GCC Summit, hosted by Bahrain in December 2025, which welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025).

According to Bahrain News Agency, this declaration was made during a Security Council meeting attended by Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei. The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of Resolution 2792 (2025) and included participation from Ambassador Rabee Saad Al Adsani from Kuwait and Ambassador Lukman Faily from Iraq.

Ambassador Alrowaiei emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to determine the fate of prisoners and missing persons. He referenced a report by the UN Secretary-General, highlighting the ongoing need for humanitarian efforts. Furthermore, he praised the Tripartite Commission and its Technical Subcommittee, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, for their role in locating missing persons, in line with the principles of Security Council Resolution 2474, particularly the right of families to know the fate of their loved ones.

On the matter of Kuwaiti property, including the National Archives, Ambassador Alrowaiei noted progress in the return of certain items. He underscored the significance of enhancing cooperation with UN mechanisms and taking concrete steps to fully recover the remaining Kuwaiti property. The ambassador concluded by expressing gratitude for the ongoing cooperation aimed at resolving these issues, which he believes will bolster regional security and stability.
