Manama: As part of Bahrain's leadership of the 46th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, the 34th meeting of the Preparatory Committee of Undersecretaries Responsible for Agriculture and Food Security in the GCC states was conducted via videoconference. The session was chaired by Asim Abdullatif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.
According to Bahrain News Agency, undersecretaries and representatives of authorities responsible for agriculture, food security, and animal wealth in the GCC states participated in the session. The Undersecretary emphasized the need to strengthen GCC integration in agriculture, food security, and animal wealth, building upon previous cooperation to further develop these sectors and support the sustainability of food security systems across the GCC.
He pointed out the necessity of enhancing the exchange of expertise, developing common legislative and regulatory frameworks, and utilizing modern technologies and artificial intelligence to increase productivity in the agricultural and livestock sectors. The importance of sustaining food supply chains and resources in alignment with the GCC states' shared priorities was also highlighted.
The meeting's agenda included discussions on the Food Security Strategy, the Plant Genetic Resources Bank, and the application of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in agriculture. Additionally, the meeting addressed legislation and regulations related to pesticides, fertilizers, and the veterinary sector, alongside other agriculture-related topics.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed recommendations and proposals aimed at bolstering cooperation among GCC states in the agricultural, food, and veterinary sectors, and in developing common policies and regulatory frameworks.
