Manama: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attack that targeted the Saudi oil tanker 'SIDR' while it was crossing the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the death of two Filipino sailors. It stressed that this attack represents a serious threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and the freedom of movement of commercial vessels, and a violation of the rules of international law, the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution No. (2817), and the resolutions of the International Maritime Organisation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the ministry affirmed Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to preserve its security, the safety of its citizens, and its interests. This stems from the ties that bind the leadership and people of the two countries, and underscores that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia is part of the national security of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The ministry also expressed the Kingdom's condolences and sympathies to the government and people of the Republic of the Philippines, and to the families, relatives, and colleagues of the two sailors.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Bahrain's call upon the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take measures to halt Iranian attacks that threaten the security and safety of maritime navigation and freedom of passage in the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways. It further called for enhanced regional and international cooperation and coordination, including joint efforts to remove mines and maritime hazards, to protect ships and their crews, ensure the free and smooth flow of trade and energy, and promote security and stability in the region.
