Manama: Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the UN Security Council's open debate on Women, Peace, and Security. The debate, titled "Peace is Decided with Women: Emerging from conflict by enhancing their participation," was chaired by Colombia's Foreign Minister, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Alrowaiei highlighted Bahrain's focus on national institutions to turn commitments on women, peace, and security into practical policies. These policies aim to advance women's empowerment, promote equal opportunities, and integrate women's needs into development and decision-making. He stressed the importance of women's participation in peace processes, particularly in the context of ongoing global conflicts, and underscored Bahrain's efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Ambassador Alrowaiei emphasized the role of the Supreme Council for Women, established in 2001 under Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, as the national mechanism for promoting women's empowerment in Bahrain. He also highlighted the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment, which is implemented in partnership with UN Women, as a testament to Bahrain's commitment to advancing women's empowerment globally.
The Permanent Representative concluded by stressing the critical role of women in peace processes, stating that their involvement strengthens dialogue and leads to more inclusive peace. He affirmed Bahrain's support for addressing the humanitarian and security needs of women and girls in conflict areas, ensuring these remain central to recovery and peacebuilding efforts.
