New York:Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the 50th session of the G77 and China Foreign Ministers' meeting, which was chaired by Uruguay alongside the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah lauded Uruguay for its leadership of the group and underscored the significance of solidarity within the G77 and China to effectively tackle economic, development, and security challenges faced by developing nations.
During Bahrain's address, he highlighted the critical need for a stable regional and international environment to achieve developmental goals, pointing out the challenges posed by repeated Iranian attacks. These attacks have led to loss of life, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions in trade and energy sectors, impacting progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah detailed Bahrain's efforts in resilience and crisis management, emphasizing the rapid restoration of services and the focus on economic diversification. These efforts were encapsulated in Bahrain's third Voluntary National Review on Sustainable Development Goals presented in July.
He reiterated Bahrain's condemnation of Iranian attacks against GCC states and Jordan, advocating for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. He affirmed Bahrain's right to self-defense under the UN Charter and its intention to seek accountability and compensation from Iran through legal and diplomatic channels.
In his conclusion, Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah stressed the necessity of both national and international efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized the role of the G77 and China in uniting member voices to advance development priorities and reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to collaborating with the group to enhance resilience and build a safer future.
