Bahrain Demands Full Compensation from Iran for Aggression in 11th UN Letter

New york: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations has sent its eleventh national letter to the UN, addressing the ongoing aggression by Iran. This letter was directed to both the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, reiterating previous concerns about Iran's unlawful actions against Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the letter emphasized Iran's continuous violation of Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemns Iran's attacks on Bahrain, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Despite this resolution, Bahrain has faced ongoing aggression, undermining the authority of the Security Council and international law obligations.

The letter highlighted that since February 28, 2026, Bahrain's air defense systems have intercepted numerous ballistic missiles and hostile drones aimed at its territory. It also recalled a tragic incident on March 24, 2026, when a Moroccan civilian contractor was killed during an Iranian missile attack. Additionally, several Bahrain Defence Force and UAE armed forces personnel were injured during these attacks.

Concerns were raised about Iran's targeting of civilian infrastructure, threatening the safety of Bahrain's citizens. The attacks have damaged key facilities, including Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, Bapco Energies storage, Aluminium Bahrain, Foulath Holding, and energy facilities in Muharraq Governorate and Sitra.

The letter asserted that such attacks violate Bahrain's sovereignty and international laws, necessitating full compensation from Iran. It referenced international legal principles and the Articles on Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts, demanding Iran's accountability.

Furthermore, the letter mentioned a Human Rights Council resolution co-sponsored by Bahrain, urging Iran to compensate victims for damages caused by its attacks. Bahrain continues to assess the impact of these unlawful actions.

The Security Council was urged to enforce Iran's compliance with international obligations and ensure full compensation for the damages inflicted on Bahrain.

In conclusion, the letter reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to the UN Charter and international law, emphasizing its right to defend its sovereignty and respond to attacks in coordination with regional partners.
