Geneva: Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a joint statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during the oral briefing of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The briefing was held pursuant to Human Rights Council Resolution 61/1 on the human rights implications of the unprovoked attacks carried out by Iran against several GCC states and Jordan.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the statement welcomed the High Commissioner's briefing and highlighted the severe impact of the Iranian attacks on civilian infrastructure and critical facilities, emphasizing that such actions undermine the fundamental rights of millions of citizens and residents and have repercussions that extend beyond the targeted countries.
It further noted that damage to energy infrastructure and essential services threatens regional and international security, economic stability, livelihoods, and rights related to health and development.
The GCC states and Jordan strongly condemned the attacks as violations of sovereignty, international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of good-neighbourly relations. They held Iran responsible for the direct and indirect consequences of these actions on civilian security, welfare, and the enjoyment of fundamental rights, as well as for their broader impact on regional peace and stability.
The statement reaffirmed a firm commitment to peace, respect for state sovereignty, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. It concluded by emphasizing that regional stability and the security of its peoples remain a shared objective and that the path to dialogue and mutual understanding will remain open in support of lasting security, stability, and constructive relations based on mutual respect and good neighbourliness.
