Manama: Arabian Gulf University (AGU) and the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education discussed expanding cooperation in educational quality, academic excellence, and scientific research.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions occurred during a meeting between Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fehaid, President of AGU, and Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al Mudairis, Director General of the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, accompanied by Dr. Fatimah Ibrahim Al Ruwais, Assistant Director General of the centre.
The two parties reviewed existing and future areas of cooperation, focusing on educational development, promoting quality and academic excellence, and exchanging expertise and best practices in education, training, and scientific research. Dr. Al Fehaid underscored the importance of strategic partnerships with regional and international institutions specializing in educational development to advance quality standards, innovation, and the competitiveness of higher education institutions in the region.
Dr. Al Mudairis praised AGU's role in higher education and scientific research across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation to develop initiatives that promote quality and excellence in education. The meeting also explored opportunities to implement joint programmes and projects, organize scientific events, and exchange expertise in institutional and academic performance evaluation to support improvements in education quality and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Both parties emphasized their commitment to expanding cooperation and maintaining coordination to support the continued development of education systems across the region. They also highlighted their existing academic and research partnership, including a joint research chair that supports scientific research, sustainability, capacity building, and the development of innovative solutions to environmental, climate, and economic challenges.
