Manama: Asim Abdullatif Abdulla, Undersecretary of Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, highlighted the vital role of veterinary medicine in protecting public health, noting it as the first line of defence against zoonotic diseases.
According to Bahrain News Agency, marking World Veterinary Day, observed annually on the last Saturday of April, he emphasised the importance of disease surveillance, vaccination programmes, and ensuring the safety of animal products to strengthen national health security.
He commended the efforts of veterinary professionals in Bahrain and worldwide, highlighting their contributions to animal health, food safety, and preventing diseases shared between humans and animals.
The Undersecretary underscored the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national veterinary system by developing local competencies, providing a supportive work environment, and maintaining high international standards to promote biosecurity, food security, and environmental balance.
He underlined that World Veterinary Day is an opportunity to honour veterinary professionals and raise awareness of their role in supporting sustainable development in agriculture and animal wealth sectors.
