Manama: The Abdulrahman Kanoo Cultural Centre held a memorial ceremony for the late poet and writer Ali Abdullah Khalifa, the centre's founder and Chairman of its Board of Directors, in recognition of his contributions to literature, poetry, heritage, and cultural work in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the wider Arab region.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, and Hala Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari, Advisor to His Majesty the King for Cultural and Scientific Affairs, alongside senior officials, writers, and cultural personalities. The event celebrated Khalifa's literary and cultural career spanning over six decades, highlighting his significant contributions to poetry, literature, and institutional cultural work. Tributes were paid to his role in establishing cultural and heritage institutions, training researchers, supporting Bahraini national songs, and contributing to the Isa Award for Service to Humanity.
The memorial featured a documentary on Khalifa's life and achievements, a poem commemorating his career, and presentations reflecting his literary and creative work. Dr. Masooma Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the Abdulrahman Kanoo Cultural Centre, announced during the event that the centre's main hall had been named the "Ali Abdullah Khalifa Hall" to honor its founder's contributions.
The ceremony also underscored the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to publish a book documenting Khalifa's poetic and literary works. Additionally, a Royal Order was issued to name a street in Muharraq Governorate after him, recognizing his literary, cultural, and national contributions.
A documentary and art exhibition were opened at the centre, featuring Khalifa's literary works, studies of his career, portraits, and artworks inspired by his poetry and cultural contributions. A memorial book was also made available for attendees to record their tributes and reflections.
