Manama:Batelco by Beyon, a subsidiary of the Beyon Group, and Mazad, a Bahraini digital auction and marketplace platform, have renewed their partnership agreement to further advance the circular economy through responsible asset management and reuse. The agreement was signed during the Gateway Gulf 2026, witnessed by Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Beyon Group.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the collaboration between the two companies has led to the collection and management of over 100,000 retired assets from more than 1,000 Batelco locations across Bahrain in 2026, including sites on the Hawar Islands. These assets, which include machinery, equipment, and scrap materials, weigh nearly 300 tonnes and consist of approximately 230 tonnes of steel assets, 25 tonnes of electronics and network equipment, and 35 tonnes of furniture and other materials.
The assets, with a combined gross book value of BHD 2.2 million, were managed via Mazad's platform, facilitating their sale and extending their lifecycle. Notably, all assets sold were repurposed, with none ending up in landfills, thus avoiding the emission of about 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), in line with Beyon Group's circular economy goals.
Shaikh Bader bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer of Beyon, emphasized the partnership’s role in integrating sustainability into business operations by responsibly managing a significant number of retired assets, ultimately reducing waste and emissions.
Nezar Habib, CEO of Mazad, highlighted the partnership's success in efficiently managing large volumes of retired assets through a transparent process, allowing these assets to be repurposed and returned to productive use, thereby creating value and supporting responsible business practices.
Both Beyon and Mazad are portfolio companies of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), and their collaboration underscores the potential for synergy among Mumtalakat's portfolio companies to enhance operational efficiency and promote sustainable business practices in Bahrain.
