Manama: MP Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), chaired a virtual meeting of the AIPU Interim Financial Committee as part of preparations for the 43rd session of the AIPU Executive Committee, scheduled to be held in Cairo.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting saw the participation of Dr. Ahmed Baabood, Secretary General of the AIPU, along with members of the Interim Financial Committee. Key topics included proposals and views from the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman, and the AIPU General Secretariat on financial requirements. Discussions covered guidelines for financial audit and control procedures, criteria for appointing an internal auditor, the internal financial audit system, and the financial audit and control system criteria for selecting a chartered accountant (external auditor).
The committee reviewed the AIPU draft 2027 annual budget, prepared by the Union's General Secretariat, and proposed observations on addressing the deficit in the Union's general budget. A proposal was also discussed to detail the items of the 2027 annual budget. The committee followed up on decisions regarding financial matters adopted by the 39th AIPU Conference.
The outcomes of these discussions will be compiled into a report to be submitted to the AIPU Executive Committee meeting in Cairo on September 20, where necessary actions on the agenda items will be considered.
