Muharraq: The Chief Prosecutor of Muharraq Governorate announced that the Public Prosecution ordered three suspects to be remanded in custody pending investigations into an incident involving a boat colliding with a Coast Guard patrol boat during the maritime ban period.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the incident followed a report received by the Public Prosecution from the Coast Guard, stating that a suspicious marine target had been detected by radar near the border area during the maritime ban period. A Coast Guard patrol boat approached the vessel to verify it, but its captain attempted to flee and failed to comply with orders to stop despite being warned several times. He then deliberately collided with the Coast Guard patrol boat, injuring several police officers and causing two of the suspects to fall into the sea, where they were rescued. The patrol boat continued pursuing the fleeing vessel until the third suspect was apprehended.
Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution launched an investigation, questioned the suspects and confronted them with the evidence uncovered. They were charged with assaulting members of the Public Security Forces, deliberate damage, fishing in territorial waters using bottom trawl nets (kraf), and sailing during the maritime ban period.
The suspects were ordered to be remanded in custody pending investigations, which remain ongoing to complete the prescribed legal procedures.
The Chief Prosecutor affirmed that the Public Prosecution will take firm action against anyone who violates applicable laws and regulations, breaches prescribed maritime ban periods and timings, assaults public officials, or endangers their safety while performing their duties, stressing that all legal measures will be taken against anyone proven responsible for committing any of these acts.
