Bahrain Hosts GCC Municipal Award Judging Committee Meeting

Amman: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, the Kingdom, represented by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, is hosting the meeting of the judging committee for the sixth edition of the GCC Municipal Award (2025 - 2026). The meeting, held on July 13 - 14, brings together members of the judging committee and representatives of the GCC General Secretariat.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, stated that hosting the meeting reflects Bahrain's commitment to supporting joint GCC action and strengthening integration in the municipal sector. This is achieved through the exchange of expertise, encouraging innovative initiatives, enhancing municipal services, and supporting sustainable urban development across GCC member states.

He emphasized that the GCC Municipal Award serves as an important platform for promoting excellence and innovation in municipal work. It highlights successful municipal experiences and shares best practices to improve municipal services, enhance the urban environment, and support sustainable development goals across the GCC.

The meeting is set to evaluate submissions based on the approved criteria ahead of selecting the winning projects and initiatives representing the best municipal practices in GCC member states. The sixth edition of the award received 39 entries from municipalities across GCC member states, reflecting continued progress in adopting initiatives and projects that support urban sustainability and innovation in the municipal sector.

This edition of the award focuses on sustainable urban tree-planting practices, covering city beautification, expanding green spaces, the use of modern tree-planting technologies, advanced irrigation methods, recycled water, community engagement, and the role of tree planting in improving air quality and the urban environment. The winners will be announced during the meeting of GCC ministers responsible for municipal affairs, scheduled for September.
