Bahrain Backs Renewal of UNDOF Mandate in Syrian Golan

Manama: During a recent session of the United Nations Security Council, the Kingdom of Bahrain supported a unanimous vote to renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Syrian Golan. The council adopted Resolution No. 2824, which extends the mandate until December 31, 2026. The resolution also calls on the UN Secretary-General to ensure the provision of necessary capabilities and resources for the mission's safe and secure functioning.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's support for the renewal reflects its endorsement of the critical role played by the UNDOF in monitoring the ceasefire in the Golan Heights and overseeing the implementation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The decision underscores Bahrain's acknowledgment of the responsibility shouldered by the Syrian Arab Republic in maintaining its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Moreover, Bahrain reaffirmed that the Golan Heights is considered Syrian Arab land under international law and relevant UN resolutions.
