Manama: Bahrain's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York has formally condemned recent Iranian drone attacks targeting its territory. The letter, sent to the UN Security Council, denounces the attacks as a violation of Bahrain's sovereignty and a threat to the security of its citizens and residents. It highlights the breach of international norms and conventions that prohibit attacks on civilian objects.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the letter emphasizes that Iran's actions undermine ongoing regional and international peace efforts. It holds Tehran responsible for destabilizing security and exporting chaos, despite Iran's previous commitment to cease military operations and respect regional sovereignty under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
The letter also points out that Iran's aggression challenges the international consensus against such behavior, as embodied in Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). This resolution, submitted by Bahrain on behalf of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, was supported by 136 UN member states and underscores the global rejection of Iran's aggressive actions.
Bahrain's message reiterates its determination to defend its sovereignty and security in accordance with international law. The letter concludes with a call for the Security Council to ensure the implementation of its resolution and hold Iran accountable for its actions.
