Bahrain and Lebanon Discuss Cooperation in Asian Parliamentary Assembly

Baku: Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Head of the Bahrain Parliamentary Division delegation, met with Dr. Qassem Hashem, Head of the Lebanese Parliament delegation, on the sidelines of the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The meeting was attended by MP Mohammed Janahi and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Council of Representatives and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Bahrain Parliamentary Division.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the two sides discussed issues of common interest, focusing on the resumption of activities and meetings of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). They explored means to ensure the continuity of its programmes and activities during the coming period to support parliamentary cooperation among member parliaments and facilitate the exchange of expertise and views.

The discussion included the decision of the APA Executive Council to assign Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain the duties of Acting Secretary General of the Interim Secretariat of the APA. This move aims to facilitate the Assembly's work, strengthen communication with member parliaments, and follow up on the implementation of decisions made by the Executive Council and standing committees.

Dr. Qassem Hashem expressed support for the proposal to entrust Bahrain with the duties of the Interim Secretariat of the APA. He commended the efforts to ensure the continuity of the Assembly's work and enhance coordination among its members.
