Bahrain Votes in Favor of UN Resolution to Renew UNAMA Mandate

New york: The Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed its support for UN Security Council Resolution 2822, which was adopted unanimously to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized Bahrain's commitment to fostering security, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan. He reiterated Bahrain's support for international efforts aimed at preserving Afghanistan's sovereignty and unity while advancing the aspirations of the Afghan people for peace and development.

The ambassador underscored the essential role of UNAMA in monitoring political, humanitarian, security, and economic developments in Afghanistan. He noted that the mission is crucial in coordinating international efforts and addressing the needs of the Afghan people.

Ambassador Alrowaiei also expressed gratitude to the People's Republic of China for its role as the penholder on the Afghanistan file and acknowledged the constructive cooperation of Security Council members during the resolution's negotiations. He stressed the importance of ensuring UNAMA's uninterrupted operations, highlighting that Resolution 2822 provides the necessary framework for the mission to continue its work effectively and support ongoing international efforts in Afghanistan.
