UAE Provides Crucial Support to Combat Ebola Outbreak in Africa

Abu dhabi: Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the nation has provided substantial support through the UAE Aid Agency to bolster efforts by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to manage the Ebola outbreak in Africa, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, emphasized the UAE's ongoing commitment to humanitarian and health assistance aimed at mitigating the impact of crises and disease outbreaks. This commitment involves coordination with governments, international organisations, and regional institutions.

Sheikh Shakhbout highlighted WHO reports that indicate the continued spread of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus across African borders, emphasizing the urgency for heightened international collaboration to contain the outbreak. He reiterated that the UAE is actively supporting affected communities by providing medical assistance, vaccines, medicines, and healthcare services in partnership with international and local entities.

According to WAM, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, recently issued a warning that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains uncontrolled and pointed out challenges in isolating and monitoring contacts of infected individuals.
