International Day of Conscience Highlights Bahrain’s Diplomatic Success

Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, emphasized the significance of the United Nations' observance of the International Day of Conscience on April 5 each year, which was initiated by Bahrain. This initiative is a testament to Bahrain's diplomatic approach under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam highlighted that the International Day of Conscience aims to strengthen global strategic partnerships to promote peace and advance diplomatic dialogue in resolving conflicts and disputes. It also seeks to coordinate efforts and resources for the welfare, development, and future of humanity.

He stressed the importance of upholding human conscience to achieve regional and international security and stability, particularly in light of Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Gulf Cooperation Council states, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He called for unified international efforts to halt the attacks, protect lives and property, respect state sovereignty and good neighborly principles, comply with international law and international humanitarian law, and implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and Human Rights Council Resolution 38, which were unanimously supported by 115 countries.

Speaker Al Musallam expressed concern over the continued attacks, which pose risks to civilian facilities and infrastructure, threaten maritime safety and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other key waterways, and impact global energy supplies and trade, with broader consequences for all nations.

He praised Bahrain's diplomatic efforts in supporting international action to enhance peace and security and resolve disputes through peaceful means. This includes its presidency of the UN Security Council this month as part of its non-permanent membership for 2026-2027 and its firm support for the Palestinian cause in accordance with international legitimacy.

Speaker Al Musallam reiterated the legislature's commitment to supporting Bahrain's efforts through parliamentary diplomacy and external engagement to promote security, stability, peace, and prosperity, benefiting humanity. He acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bahrain's diplomatic missions abroad for their efforts in fostering a stable international environment and ensuring opportunities for prosperity and sustainable development for all.
