Foreign Minister Calls for End to Iranian Attacks on International Day of Conscience

Manama: Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, highlighted Bahrain's dedication to promoting the values of human conscience and fostering a culture of peace. These efforts are in line with the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Minister expressed gratitude for the United Nations' recognition of the International Day of Conscience, celebrated annually on April 5, following an initiative by Bahrain. He emphasized that this occasion underscores the growing national and international awareness of the significance of human conscience in fostering tolerance, dialogue, and the rejection of division and hatred. The Minister stressed the need for dialogue and negotiation to address the root causes of conflicts and enhance human solidarity in support of sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.

The Minister underscored the necessity of prioritizing human conscience in efforts to bolster regional security and stability. He called for an end to the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and Jordan, citing United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, supported by 136 countries, and a Human Rights Council resolution unanimously backed by 115 countries. These resolutions demonstrate a broad international response to Bahrain's diplomatic efforts and include a clear condemnation of Iran's violations of international law, humanitarian law, and principles of good neighborliness.

He reiterated the call for Iran to adhere to international charters and principles of good neighborliness by ceasing attacks on neighboring countries, civilians, and vital infrastructure. The Minister called for the safeguarding of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other crucial waterways, the protection of global energy supplies and trade, and the cessation of support for proxies and militias. He also urged cooperation to eliminate nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction in the region, directing resources towards sustainable development and regional stability.

The Minister reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to its diplomatic role, particularly during its presidency of the United Nations Security Council this month, within the framework of its non-permanent membership for the 2026-2027 term, its rotating presidency of the GCC, and its representation of Arab states. He highlighted Bahrain's dedication to promoting peaceful dispute resolution, especially regarding the Palestinian cause, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. This includes support for efforts to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, facilitate recovery and reconstruction, and advance a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Bahrain's support for diplomatic endeavors aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable peaceful solutions to conflicts was also emphasized, along with efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, reduce escalation, and prioritize civilian protection. The Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening humanitarian response, including the provision of health, education, and relief services.

On this occasion, the Minister expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs personnel and Bahrain's diplomatic and consular missions abroad for their dedication and commitment to representing the Kingdom and advocating its positions at national, regional, and international levels.
