Brussels: Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Belgium, chaired a joint meeting of the GCC ambassadors to the European Union with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament. The meeting took place at the European Parliament headquarters in Belgium, in the presence of several Members of the European Parliament representing various political groups and relevant parliamentary committees.
According to Bahrain News Agency, at the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador, on behalf of the GCC ambassadors, expressed his appreciation for the statements issued by the President of the European Parliament, in which she strongly condemned the Iranian attacks and expressed solidarity with the GCC countries. He commended the European position of solidarity with the GCC states regarding these blatant Iranian attacks, emphasising the importance of this meeting in light of the current developments in the region and the need to continue consultation and coordination between the European Union and the GCC countries in a way that supports regional and international security and stability.
The Ambassador reviewed the latest developments in the region, underscoring the GCC countries' firm position in condemning the criminal Iranian attacks on countries in the region, which pose a serious threat to security and stability and constitute a clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. In this context, he also highlighted United Nations Security Council Resolution No. (2817) of 2026, which includes a clear condemnation of these attacks and calls for their immediate cessation.
On her part, the President of the European Parliament affirmed the European Union's firm stance against Iranian aggression toward the GCC countries, stressing the importance of the international community's commitment to the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the dangers of violating international law and United Nations principles. She expressed her full support for the GCC countries' efforts to defend their security and stability.
The meeting addressed developments related to the blatant Iranian aggression against the GCC countries since 28 February 2026, as well as ways to enhance joint coordination between the GCC states and their European partners to secure a unified and firm European position toward this aggression. Several regional issues and topics of mutual interest were also discussed.
